an ER Doctor’s time in Iraq

Week 1: Made it to Iraq

Hey guys, made it here safely. Weather is OK, dry (go figure) and only around 80 or so. It was a forty hours total time from when we left Saturday, till I got to Iraq. Actual flight time was around 20 hours. The flight into Iraq was on a plane called a Shirpa (spelling?) UC-25. It is a small little nonpressurized plane that special forces and cargo drops are made in. We flew at 12,000 feet for 2 hours at night into Balad’s airspace and then dropped at 20 degrees, descending around 3,000 feet/min onto the runway. YIKE!

Anyway, my room is a small trialer, across from some showers and toilets in another trailer. I have a small clinic in the hanger and the ER is across the street. I’ll post some pictures soon.
